The 300 m and 4×300 m are run as direct finals, and the placings are determined by the times achieved in the individual races.

The 600 m, 800 m, and 1,500 m are run in heats, and the top fifteen athletes based on the best times achieved in the heats advance to the final.

In technical events with a qualification round, athletes have three attempts, and the top ten athletes by performance advance to the final. In the final, everyone takes three attempts, and the top eight after three attempts will take a further three attempts.

In the cricket ball throw, athletes in qualification take all three throws consecutively with no trial throw; in the final, they take individual attempts in the order of the start list.
